Preparing for Princesses

Our first year here, we jumped right in to the farm-life by procuring 10 laying chickens and 6 ducks. Katie was insistent that we name them after Disney princesses and so we welcomed: Cinderella, Snow White, Ariel, Rapunzel, Mulan, Merida, Belle, Pocahontas, Anna, and Elsa.

We tried to name the ducks individually, but they share one personality between themselves. So we just call them The Ducks.

In 2017, we added 5 more princesses: Tiana, Jasmine, Aurora, Moana, and Leia (because Star Wars is now a Disney franchise.)

For a while we had beautiful brown eggs coming out of our ears. Add to that big white duck eggs, and it was certainly more than Paul and I could eat on our own. Everyone who visited left with at least a dozen eggs.

Sadly, a chicken's life is not always a long one. We are down to only 4 of our original royal court. And between the 9 remaining HRHs, we get 2-5 eggs per day. It's time to add some new royal blood to the coop.

This spring we are getting ready for 5 new princesses although I'm not sure there are any names left to use.
